Shirebrook A living Heritage

Bolsover Council commissioned us to make a film tracking the history of Shirebrook. This seemingly sleepy Derbyshire village, birthplace of actors John Hurt and Jason Statham, was at the centre of the Miner’s Strike in 1984 . At a live event in July, the Halle Orchestra performed a new 15 minute work composed by Bea Schirmer while the filmed played, an experience very common before the advent of talking films in 1929. Over 1600 people attended the two performances, with over 80%  hearing a live orchestra for the first time. In the words of many the film and music provoked emotions never experienced in this village since the Miner's Strike.
